In a feedthrough encircling coil eddy current system, ferromagnetic materials such as ferromagnetic steel tubing are particularly advantageous for testing due to their ability to enhance the effectiveness of the eddy current inspection.

When using a direct current (DC) saturation method, ferromagnetic materials can become magnetically saturated, which alters their magnetic permeability. This saturation results in a more pronounced response to the eddy currents generated by the inspection system. Essentially, the changes in the magnetic field behavior of these materials during testing can provide valuable insights into the material's structural integrity and help to identify flaws.

Unlike non-ferromagnetic materials like copper, titanium, and brass, ferromagnetic materials can significantly influence the eddy current response due to their magnetic properties. This interaction is critical for the detection of defects, making ferromagnetic steel tubing the optimal choice for such testing in an eddy current system. The ability of these materials to leverage DC saturation directly supports the sensitivity and accuracy of the testing process, ultimately enhancing the quality of inspections in various applications.
